The Local Government Act 2000 requires every local authority to prepare a Community Strategy.  Community Strategies are designed to improve the quality of life of local communities by linking the actions of councils with those of other public, private and voluntary sector organisations.  

Community Strategies are developed through public engagement and the involvement of the Council and its partner organisations. 

The Bath and North East Somerset Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) was formed in June 2002 to coordinate this.  The LSP is chaired by Cllr Francine Haeberling, representing Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Bath and North East Somerset Local Strategic Partnership has gained a Plain English Campaign Crystal Mark for the claity of its 'BE: Better for Everyone - The Community Strategy for Bath and North East Somerset, 2004 and Beyond' document
